Melanie Rhianna Lewis

I have been working with software since the early 80s. Initially using 8 bit processors before moving on to the 32 bit ARM processor at the end of the 80s. During this time I also used UNIX and VMS. I first used Linux in about 1995 which was when I returned to University to study for a Masters specialising in Machine Vision. I subsquently put together the first ARM Linux distribution. I have worked in embedded software, application software, client/server and comms. I have been active in the FOSS community off and on since then. I am active in the PHP community (I am the maintainer of the PHP DIO PECL extension) and in the women geek community. I am a member of PHP Women, LinuxChix and DevChix. Recently I helped form LinuxChix North, a chapter of LinuxChix for the North of England.
